A six-month-old baby died Monday after she was forgotten in a car by family members in the southern Bedouin town of Rahat.
The girl was brought by her father to a city clinic in critical condition. Doctors at the clinic pronounced her dead.
According to the Ynet news site, the distraught father said he had forgotten her in the car.
Rahat saw fairly mild temperatures over the past day, with a high around 20 degrees Celsius (68 Fahrenheit), but a greenhouse effect in a locked car can turn a vehicle parked in sunlight into a dangerously hot trap for small children, whose bodies are less efficient than those of adults at regulating body temperatures.
Police were investigating the incident.
