The chief rabbi of the Israel Police released a greeting to Israel’s Christian community, wishing members an upcoming happy new year according to the Gregorian calendar.
This was the first time such a message was issued by a police chief rabbi.
Police Deputy Commander Rabbi Rami Barkiahu said in a statement that he hopes the “new year will be a year where members of all faiths will serve to create a law-abiding, justice-seeking, moral and ethical society.
To the members of the community who serve on the police force, Barkiahu wished for “luck and success on your dedicated, professional work in the police and for all of Israeli society.”
Barkiahu began his term as police chief rabbi last week. He also serves at the spiritual leader of the Israeli settlement of Talmon in the West Bank.
