Israel’s police chief said Tuesday that the major threats to Israeli society are violence, particularly among teens, and corruption among public figures.
Speaking at the Herzliya Conference, Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino added that Israeli organized crime has gone beyond the pale and has become intertwined with government operations.
Danino made it clear that the police would continue to combat public corruption, and called for the issue to be promoted to the top of Israel’s national priorities.
Earlier this month, police launched an investigation and began to collect evidence on the corruption charges in the Labor party primary election, a week after other accusations of electoral malfeasance surfaced against members of the Likud and Jewish Home parties in their primaries.
“We will not be a pawn in the hands of any political body, we will investigate and do our work to uncover the truth.” Danino announced at the time.
