DR Congo migrants in Israel to face deportation
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleThe Israeli government withdraws the temporary group protection status from hundreds of migrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo, meaning they could be deported.
The decision, made by Interior Minister Aryeh Deri after consulting the Foriegn Ministry, says there is no reason not to deport the Congolese migrants back to their home country, deeming the country safe, Haaretz reports.
The migrants now have until January 5, 2019 to leave Israel, after which visas will only be extended on a case-by-case basis, the Administration of Border Crossings, Population and Immigration says.
