Israel’s mission to UN holds memorial for Peres

Israel’s mission to the United Nations holds a memorial ceremony for Shimon Peres at the UN headquarters in New York.

The ceremony is attended by Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and US Ambassador Samantha Power, as well as envoys from more than 40 countries around the world.

At the ceremony, Danon pays tribute to Peres, hailing him as one of the country’s founding fathers and “a man of vision and optimism who dedicated his life to the State of Israel.”

The mission has also opened a book of condolence.

Ban says at the ceremony: “I had the privilege to benefit from his wisdom. His leadership will be missed as someone who worked to realize the dream of security and peace for Israel.”
