UN envoy: East Aleppo may be ‘totally destroyed’ by year’s end
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleThe rebel-held eastern areas of Syria’s devastated second city Aleppo may be “totally destroyed” by the end of the year, says Staffan de Mistura, the UN special envoy to the country.
Mistura says there are only an estimated 8,000 rebel fighters holed up in the eastern parts of Aleppo, and that no more than 900 insurgents there are from the al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria.
