US must stop threatening to attack Iran, Tehran’s foreign minister says after talks

The United States should immediately desist from threatening the use of force against Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says.

Araghchi makes the remarks at a disarmament conference in Geneva after a second round of talks were held between US and Iranian representatives in the western Swiss city earlier in the day over Iran’s nuclear program. Araghchi had previously expressed optimism over the progress in the talks, and spoke of a “window of opportunity” in the negotiations, where he said an understanding on “guiding principles” had been reached.

“It was agreed that both sides would work further on draft texts for a potential agreement, after which the drafts would be exchanged and a date for a third round would be set,” he tells state TV.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to attack Iran over its bloody crackdown on anti-regime protests last month, and then over its nuclear program.
