Israel and Germany sign an agreement for Berlin to provide annual financial support of €5 million ($5.7 million) to the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial center until 2030, the Foreign Ministry announces.
The funding will be used for “Holocaust research, documentation, education, and remembrance,” the ministry says, after Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and his German counterpart Johann Wadephul sign the agreement at the ministry in Jerusalem.
The agreement amends a 10-year framework signed in 2020 that committed Germany to providing €1 million annually.
Germany, the birthplace of the Nazi Party, has long prioritized Holocaust education in its relations with the Jewish state.
Earlier this year, Yad Vashem selected Munich as the site for its first Holocaust education center outside Israel, with plans for the new institution to strengthen Holocaust education and combat rising antisemitism.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
