Netanyahu to be released from hospital on Tuesday after hernia surgery
PM was reportedly set to be discharged on Monday, but was advised to stay an extra day
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be discharged on Tuesday afternoon from Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem, where he is recovering well after undergoing a successful hernia surgery on Sunday night, his office said Monday.
It said in a statement that the prime minister was feeling well enough to continue to hold meetings and consultations from the hospital.
The statement said the decision for him to discharged on Tuesday was “on the advice of his doctors.”
Channel 12 news reported that “according to all assessments,” Netanyahu, who was under full sedation for the surgery, “was supposed to be discharged” on Monday, perhaps even in the morning.
Speculation has intensified regarding Netanyahu’s health since he had a pacemaker fitted last year. Doctors later revealed that he had suffered a potentially life-threatening “transient heart block,” and had a heart conduction problem for years.
The TV report highlighted several instances from Sunday night’s press conference, some hours before the surgery, when Netanyahu uncharacteristically stumbled over words.
“We’ve never seen him like that,” said anchor Rafi Reshef.
Political reporter Daphna Liel said that even if one assumes that, “this time, nothing is being hidden from us,” it was a mistake for him to hold the press conference, ostensibly intended to show that he was in robust health, when it would have better for him to rest before the operation.
