Powerful gale lays bare the mechanics of Trump’s hair
Footage of the US president boarding Air Force One demystifies the coif that has left many pundits scratching their heads
Many have wondered over the years how much hair is actually growing out of Donald Trump’s scalp. Judging by a video widely shared Wednesday on social networks, the answer is: not much.
The footage, shot last week, shows the president boarding Air Force One, with strong winds blowing from behind him.
At one point while he makes his way up the stairs, a powerful gust cleaves the 71-year-old’s coif, revealing a broad bald patch in the back of his head.
The images of Trump’s disheveled mane went unnoticed until they were tweeted by Huffington Post reporter Ashley Feinberg.
The president’s mass of orange hair has long been the subject of pundit commentary — including a lengthy investigative piece in Gawker, penned by the very same Feinberg — with some speculating he wears an elaborate hairpiece.
The president has several times claimed he doesn’t wear a wig, though he has admitted to using hairspray.
According to Dr. Alan Bauman, founder of the hair restoration clinic Bauman Medical, Trump has undergone hair transplants to hide his baldness.
“In my professional opinion I do believe he has had some previous hair transplantation to the frontal part of his hairline,” Bauman told The Guardian.
“He probably also has access to potent prescription topical medication like Formula 82M Minoxidil, which would be used twice daily, or a laser therapy cap, which could easily be hidden underneath a baseball hat.”
A laser therapy cap is designed to induce hair growth using beams directed at the scalp.
In his controversial book “Fire and Fury” on Trump’s White House, Michael Wolff said that the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump does not hesitate to describe the sophisticated mechanics of her father’s hair to relatives and friends.
He described the ‘do as “an absolutely clean pate – a contained island after scalp reduction surgery – surrounded by a furry circle of hair around the sides and front, from which all ends are drawn up to meet in the center then swept back and secured by a stiffening spray.”
