Quentin Tarantino to sell 7 uncut ‘Pulp Fiction’ scenes as NFTs
Director to auction off unseen segments of landmark film with help of Israeli company
Quentin Tarantino will auction off seven uncut scenes from his landmark 1994 film “Pulp Fiction.”
The movie segments will only be viewable to the buyer and will come with the uncut first handwritten scripts of the film and exclusive commentary by the director.
The scenes will be sold as NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, a medium for digital artwork that has boomed in popularity in the past year. Purchased items are saved on the blockchain, a permanent digital ledger in which every transaction is logged and made public. The artwork’s unique identitification can make a digital item a potentially valuable collectible.
The Tarantino items will be sold as “Secret NFTs,” built on Secret Network, using a new type of technology that can keep the images hidden from the public, said SCRT Labs, the Israeli development company behind the technology.
“I’m excited to be presenting these exclusive scenes from PULP FICTION to fans.” Tarantino said in a statement. “Secret Network and Secret NFTs provide a whole new world of connecting fans and artists and I’m thrilled to be a part of that.”
NFT artwork has previously been public by default, a major point of criticism for the technology. Secret NFTs allow the creator or owner of the artwork to choose between displaying it publicly or keeping it private, allowing for the possibility exclusive digital galleries, among other uses.
The “Pulp Fiction” auction will take place on OpenSea, the world’s largest NFT marketplace.
