Sacha Baron Cohen rushed straight from Ben Gurion Airport to Bat Yam to visit his beloved grandmother after arriving in Israel earlier this month
The comic actor/writer’s bubbe, Liesel Wieser, just turned 97 and is a fitness instructor for the 60-and-up-age group in her community, according to her YouTube video. Wieser has been an exercise teacher for more than 75 years.
Baron Cohen came to Israel on a personal visit with his wife, actress Isla Fisher, and their two daughters. After catching up with family, “The Dictator” star met with actual former world leader, President Shimon Peres in a private meeting later that week, raising some eyebrows — but apparently not the prez’s — by turning up in flip-flops.
His visit to Bat Yam was one of the few that Baron Cohen has made recently out of uniform. He reportedly took his grandmother and her Filippino caretaker to the Tzipora restaurant, a popular food joint in the neighborhood. Baron Cohen refused to be photographed with residents who recognized him, saying he was not allowed to have photographs out of his Dictator costume.
The 40-year-old Englishman reportedly sends his grandmother a bouquet of flowers each week from wherever he is in the world.
