A woman in her 70s was killed in an apparent hit-and-run accident Monday in the central region city of Rishon Lezion.
The suspected driver was later arrested.
Magen David Adom emergency service first responders said they found the woman on a traffic island on Yerushalayim Street. The woman had suffered head injuries and was not showing any vital signs.
Medics attempted to resuscitate the woman but were forced to declare her dead at the scene.
Police said traffic investigators examined the site of the incident and that officers launched a search for the driver.

Police later said that a resident of the city, in his 50s, was arrested in connection with the incident.
Earlier this month two children aged 8 and 10 were seriously and critically injured by a car as they rode their scooters in the city of Lod. Another child, 13, was moderately injured. The driver fled the scene. Police later arrested a resident of the city, 18, on suspicion of being involved in the incident.
According to the Or Yarok traffic safety lobby group, since the beginning of the year 314 people have been killed on the roads, compared to 309 in the entire 2022.
