A would-be burglar required help from firefighters to extract himself from an eight-meter deep ravine on Wednesday in Jerusalem, after a attempted theft went awry.

The man was in the middle of robbing an apartment in Gilo, a southern neighborhood of the capital, when police called to the scene disturbed his activities, Ynet News reported.

The officers reportedly fired their weapons into the air as the robber attempted to flee the scene. He tumbled down a nearby ravine, sustaining moderate injuries in the fall.

After being extracted by firefighters, the robber was placed under arrest and taken to Hadassah Hospital in Ein Kerem for treatment.
