Some thirty-nine people were injured and one killed on Sunday morning as an Egged bus collided with a truck, Israel Radio reported. The accident occurred along Route 3 near Gedera, in the center of the country, causing heavy traffic and delays. A helicopter was called to evacuate the most seriously wounded.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the truck driver, turning into a military base near the Nahal Sorek interchange, did not yield to a No. 446 bus, Ynet News reported.

Egged spokesman Ron Ratner, in an official statement, said that the accident was “probably due to the truck entering the path of the bus… preliminary examination of the event found that the driver had no room to maneuver to avoid the accident.”

Earlier this month five Palestinian children and one teacher were killed when a truck and bus collided north of Jerusalem.
