Superstar actress Scarlett Johansson and fiance Romain Dauriac are expecting their first child, it was reported on Monday. According to a source close to the couple cited by celebrity gossip site TMZ.com, Johansson is already five months pregnant.
It will be a first child for Johansson, 29, and Dauriac, a French journalist who proposed to the actress last year. A date for their wedding has not been set.
It is unclear how the pregnancy will affect Johansson’s busy acting career. Shooting for Marvel superhero movie “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the sequel to 2012’s mega-blockbuster “The Avengers,” is due to begin on April 5. Johansson, as the super assassin/spy Black Widow, is the main female character in the franchise. According to E! News, her scenes have already been been “fast-tracked” to the front end of the shooting schedule.
Johansson, who is Jewish, made headlines around the world this year for her endorsement of Israeli home-beverage technology company SodaStream. Her endorsement deal was slammed by the BDS movement over the company’s operations in a West Bank settlement outside Jerusalem, where it maintains a factory that employs both Palestinians and Israelis. Johansson quit her role as an Oxfam ambassador over the UK charity’s criticism of her, and defended SodaStream as a company seeking to bridge toward Israeli-Palestinian peace.
“Captain America: the Winter Soldier,” another Marvel movie in which she plays the Black Widow, is to open internationally on March 26 and in the US on April 4. Another Johansson movie, “Under the Skin,” in which she plays an alien seductress preying on unsuspecting humans in rural Scotland, is to open March 14.
