A 12-year-old girl died Thursday evening at her friend’s bat mitzvah party in southern Israel from what appeared to be an epileptic fit.
The girl collapsed at the party and was pronounced dead by paramedics after several unsuccessful attempts to resuscitate her. She had a medical history of epilepsy.
The party, needless to say, ended immediately. The children went home and were visited by local social workers and psychiatric care specialists.
Hebrew media reports didn’t give precise information concerning the location of the incident, but quoted Eshkol Regional Council head Gadi Yarkoni saying that it was “a terrible tragedy” for the family and the area.
The girl had collapsed a week earlier and was hospitalized, Ynet reported.

Her parents have requested an autopsy, and the girl’s funeral has yet to be announced.
