12-year-old girl dies in Negev; tire tracks found on her chest
Girl’s family claims she died of heat stroke after being left in car, but police open investigation after finding evidence she was run over
A 12-year-old girl died in Hura in the Negev on Saturday. Her family claimed she suffered a heat stroke after being left in a car, but evidence of upper body trauma contradicted their account.
The family of the girl alerted Magen David Adom ambulance services, who discovered the girl at the entrance to the Bedouin village in critical condition and undertook resuscitation measures.
Paramedics on the scene reported no signs indicative of heatstroke, but tire tracks were visible on her chest.
The girl was evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba where she was pronounced dead by medical staff.
Police have opened an investigation into the girl’s death.
Earlier Saturday, an Arab man was shot and killed in Nazareth.
According to the Abraham Initiatives, an anti-violence monitoring group, at least 103 Arabs have been killed in violent circumstances since the start of the year, a major leap from the 44 slayings at this point in 2022.
Police, politicians, and community leaders have struggled over the past several years to rein in criminal activity, which has driven spiking violence.
Many Arab community leaders blame authorities and the police, who they say have failed to crack down on powerful criminal organizations and largely ignore the violence, which includes family feuds, mafia turf wars, and violence against women. The communities have also suffered from years of neglect by state authorities.
