Dozens injured as bus careens into traffic near Tel Aviv
Driver loses control of vehicle, hits other cars and slams into wall before veering off highway south of Tel Aviv; most injuries described as light
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleDozens of people were injured Sunday morning in a multi-vehicle collision south of Tel Aviv after a bus plowed into several vehicles.
A 28-year-old woman was moderately injured, and another 60 people were lightly injured in the major pileup on Route 44 at the Holon Junction, the Magen David Adom emergency service said.
The accident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. when a bus driver traveling eastbound toward Tel Aviv lost control of the vehicle and slammed into another bus and several other cars.
The bus,which was full of passengers, then hit a wall and veered off the highway up a grassy embankment before it finally stopped.

“We saw crushed cars, deployed airbags, a bus whose whole front end was crushed sitting on a traffic island, and cars scattered for the next three intersections,” an MDA paramedic said.
“Everyone was conscious… most suffered light to moderate injures,” the paramedic said according to reports.

In total, 34 injured commuters were taken to a number of area hospitals, including Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, the Wolfson Medical Center in Holon and the Sheba Medical Center in Tel HaShomer.
The crash caused heavy congestion on the east-west highway in both directions.
