Liza Shvetz, the 102-year-old former secretary of David Ben-Gurion, recalls the strong affection Israel’s first prime minister had for Shimon Peres, who in his youth served as one of his aides.
“Ben Gurion loved Shimon Peres and appreciated him,” Shvetz tells Ynet, recalling that even when still a young politician, Peres was a dominant figure in Ben-Gurion’s circle.
“He was very popular and appreciated,” she says. “He was very dedicated and Ben-Gurion just loved it.”

Shvetz says she will always remember the warmth of Peres and his wife Sonia.
“I visited their home several times and she was always very nice,” she says. “Shimon could not survive without public service. People like this are rare in our era. This generation is vanishing.”
