Muslim protesters slam Temple Mount metal detectors as Israeli ‘provocation’

Muslim worshipers participating in protests against the new security measures at the Temple Mount say the placement of metal detectors at the entrances of the holy site is a “provocation” by Israel.

“Al Aqsa is just for us. The [Waqf] guards can be the ones who check people. The people here see the metal detectors as a provocation,” one protester who asked to remain anonymous says.

Asked how Israeli police can mitigate the threat of a future attack at the site, he responds: “There is danger everywhere. A policeman walking anywhere in America, a man can come up in shoot him.”

Another worshiper, who also asked to remain anonymous, says: “Why are the settlers coming to Al Aqsa. It’s a provocation.”
