Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu and senior cabinet members will meet Friday to decide on the government’s policy regarding the fate of the Givat Ulpana neighborhood in the West Bank settlement of Beit El.
Earlier this week the Supreme Court rejected a state appeal and ruled that five houses in the neighborhood, found to have been built on private Palestinian land, had to be emptied and demolished by July 1.
The court ruling caused friction within the coalition, with right wing members, including Yisrael Beytenu chairman Avigdor Liberman, calling for Knesset legislation to reverse it.
Joining the prime minister will be Minister of Defense Ehud Barak, Minister of Strategic Affairs Moshe Yaalon, Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman, Minister Benny Begin, Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein and, in his closed forum debut, Kadima leader and deputy prime minister Shaul Mofaz.
