In Jerusalem, meet thought-provoking authors and enjoy an encore English performance of hip-hopera, ‘The City’

David Grossman and Melanie Phillips headline the next Jerusalem events in the Times of Israel Presents series. The new series of live interviews, films and theater presentations — all in English — have attracted over 1,000 people since they were launched in February.

March 20: “THE CITY”
On Monday, March 20, the Incubator Theater’s acclaimed hip-hop opera “The City” — a popular sellout show in its Hebrew original — will be performed in English at Beit Mazia in central Jerusalem.

“The play tells a classic noir tale of private detective Joe meeting a mysterious woman who convinces him to investigate her sister’s strange disappearance,” reports Jessica Steinberg.

March 26: MELANIE PHILLIPS
On Sunday, March 26, we continue our series of live interviews at the Hirsch Theater, Beit Shmuel. “Londonistan” author Melanie Phillips, the hard-hitting columnist for The Times of London, The Jerusalem Post and the Jewish Chronicle, and regular panelist on BBC’s “Question Time” and “The Moral Maze,” will be in conversation with Matthew Kalman. Personal Pages: Meet the Author at the Tower of David

Two spy novelists are our first guests in a series of monthly conversations between authors at The Tower of David, beginning Tuesday, March 28.

March 28: ADAM LEBOR writes for the Economist from Budapest. He is the author of several acclaimed non-fiction books including “Hitler’s Secret Bankers,” “Tower of Basel” and “City of Oranges” about Jaffa. He now writes thrillers featuring the former Mossad agent Yael Azoulay. The latest is “The Reykjavik Assignment.”
MISHKA BEN-DAVID is a former Mossad agent who lives outside Jerusalem and is the author of 15 books. His spy thrillers include “Duet in Beirut,” “Forbidden Love in St. Petersburg,” and “Final Stop: Algiers.”
