The whirlwind, semi-secret romance between Education Minister Gideon Sa’ar and Channel 1 news anchorwoman Geula Even has become a major topic in the Hebrew gossip columns since it was exposed last week.
Rumors of the unlikely pairing had been brewing for some time, but after they were spotted together at a restaurant last Thursday and reports spread in the media, the cat was out of the bag.
The new couple strongly prefer their privacy, have refused to answer questions about their romance, and have not been photographed together.
Sa’ar, 46, and Even, 40, are both recently divorced and both have children from their marriages. Sa’ar finalized his divorce just a few weeks ago, but his new relationship appears to be serious — on Saturday, he reportedly introduced Even to his mother.
Israeli TV stations have been broadcasting clips of Even interviewing Sa’ar, highlighting ostensible moments when their affection for each other was visible. There has been no suggestion, however, that any such mutual interest undermined the professional conduct of the interviews.
