Facing Israel’s fifth election in less than four years, The Times of Israel has launched a new limited podcast series in which we ask: How did Israel’s electoral system become dysfunctional? And how could it still be fixed?

With only just over three weeks until the November 1 Israeli elections, we have set out to understand how to break the seemingly endless elections cycle and invite you to join us on an audio journey into Paralyzed Nation, available exclusively to members of The Times of Israel Community.

In the first episode, which dropped today, senior analyst Haviv Rettig Gur outlines three realistic ways out of the stalemate.

That episode — Haviv Rettig Gur on three paths to end the deadlock — is now live and available here.

In upcoming episodes, Rettig Gur will explain the pros and cons of Israel’s unique electoral system and discuss how the changing threshold makes or breaks each election.

In addition to Rettig Gur, for future episodes, we are enlisting our team of political experts, including editor David Horovitz, political correspondents Tal Schneider and Carrie Keller-Lynn and settlements reporter Jeremy Sharon.

Guided by your emailed audio questions, we will discuss what you, our listeners, want to learn. (Have burning questions? Please send voicemail recordings to email podcast@timesofisrael.com.)

On October 19 at 8 p.m., you can meet our team during a live, in-person Paralyzed Nation recording at Jerusalem’s Train Theater. Here, too, your questions set the agenda. We will conduct anonymous online polling on central issues and see if any of our answers sway your votes. (Each Community member can redeem two free tickets to the live event. Order tickets here.)
