Likud MK Sharren Haskel denounces coalition chairman David Amsalem’s effort to eject her from the party over her opposition to a bill empowering the Interior Ministry to prevent stores from opening on Shabbat.
“Is it right to put a noose around a Knesset member’s neck? There are no other ways to have a substantive conversation,” Haskel says at a hearing of Likud’s top internal court regarding her expulsion, according to Hadashot news.
“They are trying to change my vote. Instead of deliberating, they are trying to bring the guillotine down on [my] head,” she adds.
Amsalem filed a petition Saturday night with the party’s top internal court seeking to eject Haskel, claiming that her opposition risks bringing down the government.
A vote on the bill is set for today, but the coalition’s majority may be imperiled by the absence of a lawmaker due to a death in his family.
