A Molotov cocktail was hurled at the car of a former Nahariya mayoral candidate on Tuesday evening, setting the vehicle ablaze.
No one was hurt in the attack on Oren Saudai’s car, which was parked outside his home in the northern coastal town at the time. The car suffered severe damage. Firefighters extinguished the flames and police opened an investigation into the incident.
Saudai, a local lawyer, campaigned earlier this year to become mayor of Nahariya, but lost to incumbent Jacky Sabag.
“They are trying to shut me up,” Saudai said in Ynet report. “I campaigned for the city authority and it seems like they still fear me.”
A video posted to YouTube claimed to show footage of Tuesday evening’s incident.
In May 2012 a pipe bomb was found near Sabag’s mayoral parking spot outside the city hall. In 2006 two grenades were thrown at Sabag’s house causing no injuries.
