TEHRAN, Iran — Iran’s official news agency reported on Monday that the country’s powerful Revolutionary Guard broke up a militant group linked to a “foreign intelligence” agency and killed its members.

The report by IRNA did not identify the terrorist group, nor give any casualty figures. The report said the Guard confiscated a large amount of weapons and communication equipment from the militant group.

It said the raid happened in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan near the Pakistani border. The area has been the scene of occasional clashes between Iranian forces and militants groups believed to be affiliated with al-Qaeda.

Iran from time to time announces similar claims about breaking up militant groups.
