President Shimon Peres sent his condolences to Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II over a brutal attack in which a soldier was beheaded on the streets of London.
“I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear of the terrible yesterday in London, it was an act of horrific brutality,” Peres wrote on Thursday. “In my name and on behalf of the people of Israel I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the family of the victim and to the people of Britain.”
Peres went on to say that terrorism is a global threat that the world must face together.
“I know that the people of Britain will stand strong in the face of this threat and the State of Israel stands side by side with them,” he wrote.
Two men, apparently British Muslims, with butcher knives hacked the soldier to death Wednesday near a London military barracks. One then went on video to explain the crime — shouting political statements, gesturing with bloodied hands and waving a meat cleaver. Soon after, arriving police shot and wounded the unidentified assailants and took them into custody.
