Ecuador president: Quake death toll rises to 233
Ecuadoran President Rafael Correa says at least 233 people are dead in the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the country’s Pacific coast.
“The official figure of the number killed has risen to 233,” Correa says on his Twitter account, marking a significant rise from the earlier toll of 77 dead and some 600 injured.
