Shortly after the statement from the Mossad that Hamas was “fortifying its position” with regard to a potential hostage deal, an unnamed individual with knowledge of the discussions tells Channel 12 that terror leader Yahya Sinwar believes he can get better terms if Gazans are seen to be suffering.

“Sinwar believes that the more his public suffers, the more the pressure on Israel will increase and the better the terms he will receive in the negotiations,” the unnamed official says. “There are two sides to make a deal, and right now the other side doesn’t want one.”

Earlier this evening, Mossad said in a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office that Hamas is looking to “ignite the region during Ramadan.”

Attempts to reach a hostage deal between Israel and Hamas in negotiations in Qatar and Cairo in recent weeks have apparently stalled.
