Tear gas canister fired by IDF during West Bank raid sparks fire in Palestinian home

A tear gas canister fired by Israeli troops during a raid of the central West Bank village of Aboud sparked a fire in a Palestinian home, briefly trapping an elderly woman inside.

The IDF says soldiers fired the tear gas to break up a demonstration that had broken out during the raid, which had included the hurling of stones at troops.

The army in a statement acknowledges that the fire was likely caused by its tear gas canister, adding that Palestinian firefighters managed to evacuate the building of all inhabitants.

Several suffered from smoke inhalation, including the elderly woman who was rushed to the hospital for treatment, Palestinian media reports.
