Trump says ‘no plans’ to meet Rouhani at UN
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleUS President Donald Trump says he has “no plans” to meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani during this year’s UN General Assembly.
In a tweet, Trump holds open the door for a future meeting with Rouhani, who he says he’s “sure is an absolutely lovely man!”
Trump, who has taken a hawkish stance on Iran and reimposed sanctions on the country as part of his withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal, has previously said he is open to meeting Rouhani without preconditions, an offer rejected by Iranian leaders.
Despite requests, I have no plans to meet Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. Maybe someday in the future. I am sure he is an absolutely lovely man!
