The KKL-JNF Jewish National Fund announces a new, NIS 30 million ($10 million) budget to give northern residents respite from Hezbollah rocket and drone attacks.
The cash will enable each of around 15,000 residents living up to nine kilometers (5.6 miles) from the northern border to spend five days in one of 26 hotels, with half board, free transportation and educational and recreational activities.
Local authorities will choose the participants, giving priority to vulnerable populations such as the elderly, the disabled, and residents who lack adequate protection.
At the end of March, the KKL launched its first respite program, which took some 6,000 people living within two kilometers (1.25 miles) of the Lebanese border for a two-night rest in a hotel.
The organization has also budgeted around NIS 800,000 ($265,000) to take school pupils away from the immediate border area to quieter classrooms where they can study in peace.
