Unvaccinated baby from Jerusalem dies of measles, Health Ministry says

Reporter at The Times of Israel

An unvaccinated one-year-old from Jerusalem died today of measles, the Health Ministry says, marking the seventh death from measles since the start of the outbreak in May. All of those who died were under the age of two-and-a-half.

As of today, 19 measles patients are hospitalized, most of whom are children under the age of 6 who have not received the measles vaccine. Of those, 4 children are hospitalized in intensive care.

The areas currently defined as having an outbreak are Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh, Bnei Brak, Harish, Modi’in Illit, Nof HaGalil, Kiryat Gat, Ashdod and Safed.

The ministry recommends that individuals who are not vaccinated, as well as parents of infants who have received one vaccine between the ages of 6 and 11 months, avoid participating in large-scale events in cities with an outbreak due to the risk of infection.
