Village resident suspected of killing 19-year-old Rabi Tuqan and wounding his brother

A 23-year-old man was arrested Saturday morning in connection with the shooting of 19-year-old Rabi Tuqan in the Arab village of I’bellin, in northern Israel, overnight Friday.

Tuqan was shot and killed in a brawl in the village. The shooter fled the scene. The 23-year-old was arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of involvement in the fatal brawl and was being interrogated by police. He was being remanded in Nazareth later Saturday.

Tuqan’s brother, aged 22, was also shot and seriously wounded during the fight. He was rushed to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa. The brothers’ father was also rushed to the hospital and treated for shock after he was informed about his son’s death.

A medical team arrived at the scene of the fight and found the young man who had been shot six times — in his heart, chest, and elsewhere along his body, a hospital spokesperson said. Magen David Adom paramedic teams tried to care for the victim, but pronounced him dead shortly after.
