A number of settlers gathered and blocked a junction this morning outside of Jiit, a Palestinian village next to Nablus in the West Bank, before setting fields on fire, causing “widespread damage,” says rights group Yesh Din.
Jiit resident Shalabi Abu Hmeid, who coordinates a local news site, te;;s The Times of Israel that it’s not clear yet whether settlers were responsible for the fields going up in flames.
The junction, as well as Jiit itself, is a 10 minute drive from Yitzhar, outside of which there were clashes between Border Police and settlers this morning during the demolition of illegal structures. A Border Police officer was lightly injured in the clashes.
Settlers also allegedly threw rocks at Palestinians in the area, with one taken to a hospital for treatment, according to B’Tselem, another rights group. It is unclear whether settlers from Yitzhar were involved in setting the fields alight.
