A 9-year-old girl was hit by a truck and killed Monday in East Jerusalem, the Magen David Adom emergency service said.
The driver did not stop, Israel Radio reported, and police are trying to locate him.
Paramedics declared the victim dead at the scene in the Arab neighborhood of Jabel Mukaber.
Last week, four people were killed in a collision between a car and a minibus in the north of the country. In that incident, the speeding car strayed into the opposing lane and crashed head-on into the oncoming minibus. All three occupants of the car were killed, as well as a woman in the minibus. Four others were moderate to seriously injured.
Traffic fatalities in 2016 rose 6% compared to 2015, the Central Bureau of Statistics said earlier this week.

Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
