A day after minister Golan extricated her mother from police grilling, mother returns to station

The mother of Social Equality Minister May Golan appears once again for questioning by police investigators, Hebrew media outlets report, after the minister was said to have smuggled her out of an interrogation at a Tel Aviv police station yesterday.

Police suspect Golan and her close circle of having committed a string of financial crimes, including fraud, misuse of public funds and creating fictitious positions in the Social Equality Ministry.

Outlets report that Golan’s mother, Rimona, avoided police attempts to question her for three days before showing up at the station yesterday. Police sought to question her since several documents and assets at the center of the corruption investigation are in her name, according to Ynet.

The elderly woman was said to have refused to cooperate with police during the questioning, then requested to go to the bathroom, where she met up with her daughter. The minister escorted her mother off the premises while shouting at police officers, per Hebrew media outlets. The police did not issue a statement on the incident.

The investigation into Golan’s circle cracked wide open on Monday after police arrested her close associate, the lawyer Ehud Gabay, and detained five other suspects for questioning.
