At memorial for slain embassy workers, Netanyahu says he discussed ‘beautiful couple’ with Trump

Speaking at the memorial service for slain embassy employees Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim at the Israeli embassy in Washington, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says: “The agony of losing a brother is great. The agony of losing a son is greater.”

He recognizes Ambassador Yechiel Leiter, who lost his son in the ongoing war.

Netanyahu says he learned from losing his brother Yoni that “life is a raging river” and that it will carry you to new places if you allow it.

Netanyahu tells the relatives of Lischinsky and Milgrim — who were about to get engaged when a gunman shot them dead outside the Capital Jewish Museum in May — that he spoke about the victims with US President Donald Trump. He says Trump said, “What a beautiful couple.”

Having a Jewish state “comes with a heavy cost,” says Netanyahu.

He says Israel will fight antisemitism, which is an organized campaign.

“When we began the great return to our land,” the first thing Israel did was create an army, he says.

“God helps those who help themselves.”

“To see the Jew as victor and not victim is a historical adjustment that will take time,” he says.

Israel has become one of the great powers on earth, he asserts: “We do not bow down. We do not surrender. We win.”
