Police have cleared out a protest encampment set up by relatives of hostages outside the Prime Minister’s Residence, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum announces.
Officers evacuated the encampment at the Shin Bet’s recommendation, after the internal security agency warned that the protesters were “too close” to the premier’s home, Ynet reports.
The encampment was set up four nights ago in opposition to the IDF’s new Gaza City ground operation, aimed at taking over the area.
Many hostage families have been ringing alarm bells about the operation, saying it may cause harm to their loved ones still in Hamas captivity and squander the chances of reaching a hostage-ceasefire deal.
Protests are still taking place in Jerusalem’s Rehavia neighborhood, the Forum adds, after demonstrators simply moved up the road to the intersection between Azza and Metudela Streets — around 150 meters (492 feet) from Netanyahu’s residence.
