Hamas agency says 450,000 have fled Gaza City, providing figure very similar to IDF’s

Gaza’s Hamas-run civil defense agency says Friday that 450,000 Palestinians have fled Gaza City since Israel began its offensive to seize the territory’s largest urban center.

The figure is very similar to the IDF’s 480,000, which is notable given that Israel says Hamas often low-balls its numbers regarding evacuations, as it seeks to prevent Palestinians from moving south.

“The number of citizens displaced from Gaza to the south has reached 450,000 people since the start of the military operation on Gaza City in August,” says Mohamed al-Mughayir from the civil defense agency.
