Lebanon’s Aoun says Israeli strikes ‘frustrate’ efforts to achieve stability

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun slams Israeli airstrikes yesterday in the Sidon and Beqaa Valley regions, saying the attacks hinder efforts to stabilize the country.

The continuation of strikes “constitutes a hostile act described to frustrate the efforts and diplomatic endeavors that Lebanon is making with its brotherly and friendly countries, led by the United States of America, to stabilize stability and stop Israeli hostilities against Lebanon,” Aoun says, according to a statement by his office.

These raids “represent a new violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and a clear violation of international obligations, and also reflect a denial of the will of the international community, especially the United Nations resolutions calling for full compliance with Resolution 1701 and its implementation in all its aspects,” he says.

Aoun calls in the international community “to assume their responsibilities to stop the attacks immediately, and to press towards respecting the international resolutions, to preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, and avoid further escalation and tension in the region,” he says.
