May Golan, likely to be left out of next Knesset, claims she was ‘too right-wing’ for PM

Social Equality Minister May Golan, who is expected to lose her seat in the October election after a poor result in yesterday’s Likud primary, claims in a statement that she was “too right-wing” for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Golan, thanking the approximately 19,000 Likud members who voted for her, claims she was placed on an “elimination list,” circulated by Netanyahu’s circle, of candidates to be pushed out of the party.

She says she was a victim of “those who didn’t want a right-wing and opinionated woman in the party, and of those ‘sources close to the prime minister’… who decided that May Golan is ‘too right-wing’ and might interfere with their future plans for the government and its leader.”

Golan, 40, was once a rising star in Likud and was first elected in 2019. She has served continuously in the Knesset for more than six years and has sparked controversy with a number of inflammatory remarks. She has also faced allegations that she created fictitious no-show jobs for her associates.
