Meretz leader Zahava Gal-on criticizes Yisrael Beytenu leader Avigdor Liberman on his “horror show” threats against journalists.
Liberman is “disingenuous” for crying foul over alleged racism against immigrants from the former Soviet Union, Gal-on says.
Liberman slammed Channel 1’s Ayala Hasson and Israel Radio’s Hanan Crystal who spoke of coming “purges” at the Immigration Absorption Ministry following what Hasson described as the ministry’s future “conquest” by Likud.
The word used refers to Stalin’s purges and thus carries especially painful meaning for Jews who escaped the FSU. Liberman pointed out that Hasson’s claim that ballot boxes were brought to immigrant centers, where “some people with a drip in their arms cast their ballots” was particularly stinging since, he said, “many of those immigrants are Holocaust survivors.”
Gal-on said Liberman was himself a racist (against Palestinians and Israeli Arabs) and should therefore know better than to play the race card.
