Jewish Home MK Ayelet Shaked, who is slated to become justice minister in the new government, will be accompanied by a Knesset-appointed security guard until further notice, Israel Radio reports.
Kneeset chairman Yuli Edelstein agreed to appoint a private security detail for Shaked after pictures surfaced on social media in which Shaked is portrayed wearing a Nazi uniform.
The appointment of Shaked to the Justice Ministry raised the ire of left wing groups, since Shaked has long been calling for changes in Israel’s justice system, including changing the makeup of the committee in charge of selecting Supreme Court justices.
The amendments proposed by Shaked aim to strengthen the government’s influence on the makeup of the panel of justices heading Israel’s legal establishment. Shaked believes the legislative branch in Israel is overly powerful and cites instances where the top court ruled against laws passed by the Knesset, the legislative branch.
