Southern residents warned of loud blasts as Gaza offensive ramps up

The city of Sderot is reportedly warning area residents that they will likely hear loud explosions throughout the day due to military operations in nearby Gaza, according to Hebrew-language media.

The city sits some seven kilometers (four miles) from the northeastern edge of Gaza City, where the army has been concentrating its war effort ahead of a plan to sack and take over the enclave’s largest city.

The warning stretches beyond Sderot to several nearby regional councils, including Sdot Negev, Shaar Hanegev and Eshkol, the Ynet news site reports.
