Supermarkets reportedly beginning to ration milk amid shortage

Some supermarkets in Israel are beginning to ration milk, Channel 12 reports, amid a nationwide shortage of the dairy staple.

The channel displays photos of supermarket signage limiting customers to as few as one carton of milk per customer.

Correspondent Hili Keren says that such limits are rare but that the shortage is expected to get worse before it gets better.

“In all or most of the big chains we’re not seeing this kind of rationing,” she says. But she adds, “We’re jut at the beginning of the shortage… The real shortage is expected to come with the holidays” that begin with Rosh Hashanah in about a month.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich recently announced measures to try to ease the shortage.
