The old lady and the AK-47s

Netivot police detectives were astounded to discover 13 rifles in a house in Kibbutz Shoval in the northern Negev where a woman in her eighties lives.

The officers were conducting a search for weapons held in private homes. Upon arriving at the woman’s house, they asked her if she was keeping any weapons in the house, and she said she wasn’t.

They decided to search anyway, NRG reports, and went to her attic where they found AK-47s, a BB gun, a Czech-made rifle, a sawed-off shotgun, a Mauser handgun, Berettas, flares, and ammunition for all of the above.

The entire stash was taken to the Netivot police station. In her interrogation, the woman said the guns belonged to her late husband but she did not know he kept them in the house.

Superintendent Menny Ohayon of the Netivot police told NRG: “We received intelligence that illegal arms were being used in the area of the kibbutz. After some footwork we located the house and officers went to find the gun. To their surprise, they found a whole stash in the home’s attic, with many weapons beyond the specific gun they were looking for.

“In the stash there was even one weapon from British Mandate days. The rest of the weapons were usable and manufactured in recent decades. Among others, we found for AK-47 assault rifles, a sawed-off shotgun, a Czech rifle, five Beretta handguns, a Mauser hand gun, a tommy gun and a flare gun. We also found a silencer, cartridges, telescope sights and enough ammo that a whole IDF unit would be happy to use.”

According to Ohayon, “the landlady is 80, her husband passed away and she is not a suspect. The investigation continues to discover who used the weapons and who stashed them. Police are working around the clock to prevent illegal weapons from reaching criminal hands and being used in foul play. In this case we went to find one gun and found a whole stash.”
