The Trump administration is seeking congressional approval to sell nearly $6 billion in weapons to Israel, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.

The proposed sale includes 30 AH-64 Apache helicopters worth $3.8 billion, which would double Israel’s current fleet of the aircraft. The package also includes 3,250 infantry assault vehicles worth $1.9 billion.

The weapons likely wouldn’t be delivered for two to three years, one of the sources tells WSJ.

The White House is now seeking approval from the four top Republican and Democratic leaders of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in order to move the package forward.

The leaders of those two committees typically must sign off on major foreign weapons deals before an administration can send a notification to the entire Congress.

While the ranking Democratic members could well choose to place an informal hold on the sale in order to delay the effort, the White House could still push it through.
